Engaged as a Solution Architect on the CSC Aon account to serve as lead technical resource on a number of projects, focusing specifically on solution architecture for new business projects. Projects involved infrastructures for large-scale ERP applications, disaster recovery, virtualization and consolidation. Provided architecture designs, timelines and budgeting for new business opportunities. Performed technical assessments of infrastructure, resulting in recommendations for Aon business units.

 

Advanced Telecommunications Project, Mitel Networks, Chicago, IL                                                                                       9 Months

Engaged as the Technical Project Manager / Project IT Architect to provide technical management on a $27MM Voice Over IP (VoIP) project, deploying to the 3rd largest school district in the country with more than 650 sites and 48,000 users. Contributed to the project’s work breakdown structure by identifying resources, assigning tasks, and defining milestones. Facilitated solution design working sessions with LAN, WAN, Telecom, and Server Team resources. Compiled and presented team recommendations; directed technical review committees, and documented final solutions. Coordinated 10 technical resources from client and vendors according to project plan.  Tracked project technical issues and risks to resolution.

 

Chicago Public Schools – Chicago, IL                                                                                                                                     16 Months

Engaged as the Lead Architect for the $49 million IMPACT project to provide application and infrastructure architecture team management in support of the deployment of three enterprise applications to a user base of 48,000 employees in the District.  Assembled and directed a team of 8 in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of the IMPACT infrastructure.  Assisted in creating methodologies and tools for the development, testing, quality assurance, production, and maintenance of complex environments supporting the following applications: student information management (Chancery), specialized services management (Goalview), and curriculum instructional management (SchoolNet). Provided technical direction to a committee composed of architects (infrastructure and application) from each of the three application vendors.  Tracked and drove resolution of technical issues submitted by various project teams composed of more than 180 staff members representing Chicago Public Schools and consultants.

·         Collaborated with the CIO to analyze the architecture of two applications from functionality to code review. Ensured application scalability, security, and compliance with district requirements.  Developed and presented deliverables to a committee composed of the implementer, Microsoft, the CIO, senior project staff, and the application vendor.  

·         Collaborated with each vendor to develop an authorization and authentication strategy and subsequent design of a .NET/C# solution for the integration of Active Directory. 

·         Provided technical oversight for the implementation of a high-performance, highly available, highly secure Web infrastructure including 72 blade servers and two HP Integrity Superdomes;drove management operations plan to support it.

·         Implemented Business Objects XI to report from a District-wide Operational Data Store.

·         Designed and built a .NET/SQL Server application to collect deployment readiness data in support of the Chancery, Goalview and SchoolNet applications. Application supported a user base of 1,200.

Engaged as technical project manager by CPS to audit existing district-wide web infrastructure to identify potential vulnerabilities. Retained by CPS to execute audit recommendations related to security, reliability, and performance.

·         Redesigned the District’s Web Win2K Web infrastructure that hosted 32 Web sites and managed greater than 190,000 page views a day.

·         Designed and implemented Linux environment for the front page hosting of more than 600 school web sites.  Drove the initiatives to enroll schools into web site program; directed the development of processes to support it.

·         Created and built an ASP/SQL Server web-based inventory application that tracked server and web site data, including maintenance tasks.

·         Designed LDAP authentication web service utilized by all of the district’s web sites that required authentication.

·         Designed and built ASP/SQL Server web-based content management request application that allowed for the creation of publish request for content in more than 32 web sites.

Engaged by Sears to perform a security audit of the web infrastructure.  Performed security scans to identify security issues. Increased web infrastructure security by redesigning the web infrastructure running.searscarpetandductcleaning.com based on a Win2K web server, and SQL Server 2000 database server. Installed and configured Cisco PIX 515E firewall, performing web server hardening on Win2K web server, and securing SQL Server database server.

Engaged by Wheels, Inc. to conduct a risk assessment of the IT infrastructure for this 600-employee company including WAN, LAN and a 128-server environment. Identified security risks in web infrastructure and recommended corrective action. Performed security scans and identified security issues in the infrastructure.

·         Developed a server consolidation plan for Microsoft Win2K file servers, and Microsoft SQL Server hardware.

·         Recommended improvements in antivirus, backup / recovery, and monitoring solutions.

DIRECTOR, WEB ARCHITECTURE

Provided direction for a network team tasked with designing a highly scalable and available production web infrastructure of NT and UNIX servers using Cisco, Dell, and Sun hardware. Supported the network manager throughout the design and implementation of an internal infrastructure/architecture.  Lead a team of five i2 product architects in completing design documentation for four critical features of the site. Directed a team of 15 Price-Waterhouse-Coopers consultants to integrate them onto the project. Served as first-point-of-contact for technical and functionality issues for a team of 20 developers.

·         Planned and executed implementation of the i2 TradeMatrix suite of products.  Directed application definition and scoping effort.

Collaborated with User Architecture and Information Architecture team members to create an MS-Access based application used to inventory the large web site of a national financial services bank. Inventory application allowed for the classification of each page on the site including design characteristics. Implemented Verity as the search engine of the site.

Managed budget, planning, staffing, software configuration and installation for start-up organization. Played an essential role in the organization’s expansion from two offices and 12 people to nine offices and 125 people by managing the conversions and installations necessary to scale the environment.

·         Provided standardized specifications for new offices including:  hardware/software, installation and configuration of the file server, workstations, level 5 Ethernet wiring, printers, fax machines, telephone systems / telephony, and WAN connectivity.

·         Modernized and scaled the internet email structure, converting from dial-up internet mail to a single SMTP server on Novell Netware using GroupWise.  Upgraded productivity applications on all servers and desktops, and oversaw rollout and training. 

·         Installed / configured the following software: Novell Netware 4.2, NT Server 4.0, CA Faxserve, CA InocuLAN, CA ArcServe, NT/Netware Backup Strategy, IIS, Novell GroupWise 5.2/Internet Agent SMTP Gateway, SQL Server 6.5, Win 95/98, ODBC/SQL Server.

·         Installed and created the  wide area network to connect all remote office sites by configuring Fractional T1 Frame-Relay WAN and, Cisco 1601 Routers; configuring TCP/IP networking.

·         Led the design and construction of the application architecture including security, reporting, messaging, and data access.

·         Designed and led the development effort of the reporting architecture for scheduled, on-demand reporting as well as forms generation.

·         Directed a team of five developers to create five models that included logical design, detailed design, programming and testing.

·         Wrote many tools in both the C language and UNIX shell scripts to facilitate the development of application windows and UNIX server processes.

Designed and built a c-language tool for the code generation of modules for a data access layer.
